Raphaella founded and created the popular former Sniffapalooza Magazine (now The Perfume Magazine.com) and created the first true perfume magazine of its kind in early 2006 out of a true love for fragrance. Passionately involved, Raphaella has spent the past few years researching and studying fragrance. Under her direction, she has pulled together an variety of professional writers to contribute to the magazine she founded, sharing with the world a huge assortment of unique articles, interviews, reviews that will be industry and consumer friendly. In 2011, She rebranded and created her most recent venture, The Perfume Magazine, an International Fragrance Magazine. Under her ownership, direction and dedication as Editor In Chief, the Magazine has garnered SIX Top-Five Finalists for the Fragrance Foundation's FiFi Awards in the category of Editorial Excellence Fragrance Coverage in 2009, 2010, and 2012. The Perfume Magazine (formerly Sniffapalooza Magazine) reaches unique visitors monthly from 190 countries and was the first ever online magazine/blog in history to earn six FiFi Top-Five Finalist for Editorial Excellence Awards.
A former model, beauty queen and professional ballet dancer, Ms. Barkley also has an extensive business background that includes executive experience in marketing, fundraising and event management. She served as Artistic and Executive Director for two successful major arts organizations; working with international ballet super stars. Raphaella is also a former artistic director of two professional ballet companies and a choreographer who has directed musicals, television commercials and was a personal manager to dancers from several leading ballet companies (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Joffrey Ballet) Other interests involve collecting rose fragrances, Raphaella's Roses and she is currently in the process of re-discovering classic and iconic fragrances and working on Part Five of Raphaella’s Rose’s. Raphaella is also a Contributor for Beauty Fashion Magazine, the national industry beauty magazine featuring her popular column, "San Francisco Beat." Ms. Barkley was also the former Editor of the Bond No. 9 Blog, reviewing “The Neighborhoods of New York” and feels some of her best work is over at the Bond No. 9 Blog. She was also featured in InStyle Magazine recently, discussing fragrances. She does not listen to unprofessional negative "chatter" on blogs and will always follow her heart and intuition.
In 2011, Raphaella was interviewed by The Fragrance Foundation of America, which she considers another great honor.
Raphaella believes that fragrance is an art form; magical and healing. She still stops to smell the roses whenever she can.
